It has been a week since my last post. Bad me when I tried so hard to keep posting every day. I am not a big writer so it is hard for me to say something every day.

What have I been doing this week? Sewing.....Sewing and the normal every day household stuff and the running to the store for groceries and whatever. There never seems to be enough time to get everything into the day.
Sunday night and tired.

I have been busy the last couple of days, playing with my sewing/embroidery machine. Don't tell any one but I have had the machine 3 or 4 years and other than one little design when I first got the machine I have not used the embroidery part of the machine. Bad me, because it was an expensive machine and I thought at the the time, that I would be using it a lot. HA! HA! Guess not.
They are white, pink, beige and yellow and with different designs or different colors of the designs. This is is my favorite, a butterfly.

I just knew it.....I can't seem to write every day.

Here it is Thursday and I haven't got anything done with sewing or writing in two days.

I am blaming it on the weather...do you think that will work? Doubt it but I am sticking to it.

I did make it out yesterday to thrift store and was looking for some old canning jars but didn't even find one. I did come home with 4 new dolls. Dolls I don't collect but hopefully they will sell. Two are from 1986 and 1975 and they will go to the antique show. The Berenguer baby will probably be sold on eBay or if someone wants these, they will be sold on a first come basis.
It is time to start a blog and see how many days I can write on it.

Do you think I will be able to write every day? Ha! I am not a writer and things seem to keep me away from the computer and zap the day is gone.

I have two friends who are challenging each other to write every day and maybe that is what I need. Well knowing me that probably wouldn't help this little brain.

So it is Monday and the wind is blowing AGAIN today. We have had strong winds for over a week. Yes, we live in a valley between two mountain ranges and yes the Colorado River also runs through our valley but this is so unusal to have the wind blow so strong for so many days.

So today and even yesterday, it was back in the sewing room...or that mess I call a sewing room...and I finally got a couple of things made. Right now I am working on clothes for the Chatty Cathy family. This dress is the one I did yesterday for the Cathy doll.
I have several dresses that I have made over the last few months on my website at http://www.ejcrafts.com if you care to look. Most dresses that I make are in cotton or cotton blends. I find that these are the easiest to care for they can be packed away then pulled out and with a little ironing they are like new again.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Where has the time gone???

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The last time I wrote on here was in October right after my husband had his stroke. It has been a roller coaster every since then. I really haven't even had the time to work much with my dolls or make all the doll clothes that I intended to do.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I guess I should start where I left off on the last post. John was in ICU for 9 days and then came home for a month. Our daughter was here with us for the first week that he was home and then she had to go back to her home in Maryland. Next was a 4 week wait for the brain swelling to go down so that they could do surgery on the artery in the neck. In the meantime our youngest son was able to get here at Halloween time and he will be living with us to help with the care.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So it was Nov and Dr. Cooper, a very nice lady surgeon, did the surgery and everything seemed to be going well and they sent him home after 3 days. He seem to be doing quite well until a few days later he got to start shaking. We called the paramedics and we were on to the hospital again where he ended up in a full seizure. The brain had swollen again and the blood pressure was out of control. It took another 5 days in ICU to get everything controlled. While we was going through this brain swell, he got very confused and tried to get out of bed and he fell, cut his head above the eye and had a black eye.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So after all that he was finally able to come home and he does require 24/7 care but he can get around the house without help. They just don't want him to fall and someone not be here. He can partly dress himself and I do the rest. The personal hygiene is all on me too. He has only partial use of the left hand and arm and because he is left handed, this part has been hard on him. Also he has problems tells us what he wants sometimes. He knows what he wants to say but it doesn't always come out right and that frustrates him. The doctor has told me that we almost lost him three times so we are just thankful that he is as good as he is.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">He is now in physical therapy twice a week, which he doesn't like but it has helped him a lot with balance and use of the hands.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I am thankful too that our son is able to be with us and help out. I know it is hard for him to be here and he is looking for a job but hasn't been able to get anything yet. Our fingers are crossed that that will change soon. I really don't know what I would have done without him over the last two times in the hospital because he could talk to the doctors and understand a lot of the medical stuff I couldn't. That helped so much. Now he helps with the wheelchair when we go places, helps with the cleaning around the house, even repaired some things that needed to be taken care of plus he drives the car so that I can sit back an relax.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So all that being said and probably no one really wants to know what we have all been through here but it helps me just to know that there are so many of my cyber friends were there when I needed them. I have to thank all my friends who called and wrote notes and emailed me. And then all the friends from CraftBuddy, Wet Canvas and Facebook who checked with me every day to be informed with what was going on and to send prayers and positive thoughts our way. I wish I could thank each one of them personally as they were so much help to keep me going.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now that we are back into a routine, hopefully I can get back to the dolls and enjoy cleaning, sewing, dressing, showing and selling my dolls. I have lots to do and I want to be able to show you want I have been working on and what direction I want to go with dolls.
On the last Sunday of September, I found my husband, John, on the floor at 7:30am. He was in the chair when I left the room and when I came back a few minutes later he was on the floor. He wanted me to help him up but I could see right away that he had had a stroke. I immediately called 911 and the paramedics were here within 5 minutes. The fire station is only a little over a mile from our house. They took him to the hospital right away and at this time John could still speak and answer questions.

I got myself dressed and then went to the hospital, a mile and a half down the road. I got there and signed him in before I even got to see him. I then was able to go back to the ER and he just wanted some thing as he had a big headache he said. He was hooked up to a bunch of monitors and I said they not going to give you anything right now. The doctor came in and said they had done a CAT scan and he did have a stroke and would I like him to get the shot they give to stroke patients because he was in the window to be able to have it. I said yes. This drug (expensive) is a super blood thinner which is giving in an IV. First a super shot and then an hour of drip. As he was having the drip he was getting further and further out of it. Couldn't talk and throwing his arms around. I had to hold his arm down and talk to him so he would lay still. The nurse and doctor kept checking him and they wanted to do another CAT scan because he was worse than when he came in. So off they took him. When they brought him back and while we waited for a room in ICU they told me that his brain didn't have a bleed. It took another hour or more to get a room for him.

He got in the room and I was able after a bit to go see him. Very little movement in the whole left side and he was pretty much out of it. He tried to talk but he really couldn't. They told me I might as well leave and go have something to eat as by this time it was after lunch time. I came back in the afternoon and there still was very little change so I only stayed long enough to talk to the nurses on duty.

Monday he was some better and you could understand part of what he said and he could move his arms and legs. I visited in the morning and again in the afternoon then for the next 8 days in ICU.
These are for the large dolls. The coat will fit dolls from 26 inches to 32 inches. These are both a wool blend, burgundy in color and lined with a burgundy satin. The hat matches and is in a pillbox style.

The first coat I did with a long very soft white faux fur and the second one I wanted a more vintage look so it was made with a leopard print shorter fur. I remember seeing this type of coat on ladies when I was growing up. I have designed all the coats myself and do take custom orders for any of the coats that I have posted. The coats on here are all listed on my website if you want to go check them out.
The coats are both shown on dolls from the 1970's They are both Eegee walking dolls. The first is a 32 inch doll and the second a 31 inch doll.

I hope you enjoy looking at the coats and hats and that you will check out my website at http://www.ejcrafts.com and look at all the coats, hats, sweaters and jackets that I have made. It is never to early to order for fall and winter as I probably will not be able to get many more of them made for general sales because of custom orders.
These coats have raglan sleeves so that will fit different size dolls plus I rolled under the fur on the cuffs so that can even be let out for a taller doll. I am showing these on 20 inch dolls.

The one on the left is a grey with brown and black plaid strips and a dark tan faux fur and the one on the right is a hunter green suede like cloth with a beige and rust colored faux fur. They are both fully lined in a heavy off white satin.

I have also been crocheting again and have make a few sweatera and hats for the dolls. This sweater is a pink and lavender with buttons to match and there is also a hat not shown.

Then I made and dressed a 25 inch baby doll in a satin brocade outfit, satin baby shoes and trimmed all with pink ribbon. For her I also made a pink and white sweater and hat to match. She is a large baby and sits in a child's rocker.
I have been very busy with making doll clothes for my regular customers and now that is done for a couple of weeks, I can breathe for a while so I started something new.

I have designed coats for dolls. These are for 18 inch through 27 inch dolls. I have a lot of faux furs left over from my bear making days so I thought how can I use some of it up and so it is being made into coats for dolls. So here are the 3 coats I have made so far.

So seeing that these were fairly easy to make and I did line them all just like a regular coat, I thought how about some fleece jackets. Here are the fleece jackets then.

I ran out of fleece so then what was left to make coats out of.....cloth of course. This past week then I made 2 heavy linen coats.

Do you think I will stop at these coats? I don't think so although today I did go back and make an outfit for one of the tote full of dolls that need clothes.

You will have to check back because I ordered so rabbit like faux fur which should be here tomorrow. I want to see what I can do with that. I know I should not order fur but my husband says, do it because these should look great. I just hope with all these different coats, that they will start to sell. Only time will tell I guess.

Have a great day!
Getting ready for a show this weekend............

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">Today has been busy as I needed to get a doll outfit made. I had this doll for over a year and I just didn't like the outfit I had made back then. I found this fabric a couple of weeks ago and I knew then what doll I wanted to use with this fabric. So today was the only day that I had any time at all to get it made up.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">This is a 30 inch walking doll made by Eegee. Year not sure but probably in the 50's or 60's. She walks perfect but being made of hard plastic, she has a crack on the body part of the shoulder. She has pretty green eyes and she really needed an outfit to match the eyes.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;"> Now isn't she just the picture of spring? Tomorrow if I have a few extra minutes, I would like to make a drawstring purse out of the same fabric.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">I really have to get all my dolls and doll furniture ready for the 3 day show this weekend and I still have so much more to do. The show is at the AVI Casino & Resort in Laughlin,NV starting on Friday. The good thing it is in the convention center and we will be able to set up on Thursday. This will be the first time that I have two spaces for the show. I have so many dolls that I am going to keep my prices really low. Nothing over $30. A lot of them at $10 and $15 so I am hoping that anyone in the area will come and see me and find that perfect doll to take home.

I found this doll size desk/chair at the thrift store the other day and I thought it was so cute and reminded me of the chairs that I used in high school. I don't know if they still use this type of chair or not. I always had problems with these chairs because I am left handed and these were all set up for right handed people.

The chair was super dirty when I got it so it must have been used a lot. I know it would fit a toddler so maybe that was who used it. Your wonder sometimes where has this chair been and who used it. It would be great to hear of the history of the chair.

I cleaned it up with some wood cleaner and because it was pretty scuffed up, I use a little stain on it the same that the chair original was done it. It took all the marked off and I think it almost looks new.
Now this is the next neat piece of furniture that I found. Also at a thrift store. It was not in too bad of shape. The top rocks and with a little wood cleaning and some oil it came out really nice. I have added a cushion in the bottom, a doll and a quilted blanket that I made and I really like it.
This is a picture I took from the top so that you can see what I did on the inside. I sell these all separate or with a doll and blanket of chose.

Just thought I would show you a couple of the things I have been picking up. My hubby and I do a lot of scouting for doll furniture and for dolls and we both really enjoy the hunt. It is always so much fun to found something a little different from the modern plastic stuff you can buy in the store.

Of course, we also have some of the plastic doll beds, strollers and carriers so we do have a large variety of things to show to all the customers. We only have one show yet to do this spring and that is in two weeks at the AVI Casino and Resort in Laughlin, NV. After that all that I have left will go on my website and some will go on eBay. It is too hot here in the summer for shows so the internet is my only way to sell. Then I will do a couple of fall shows but don't know the schedule yet on those. I don't plan too far ahead as I don't know how my health or my hubby's health will be. We are just taking it one day, one week at a time.

Enjoy the pictures and post a comment. I always like to hear what others think.
We have had a busy week and today was no exception. We decided that we would go looking for some small porcelain heads for a wonderful friend in Canada. We didn't have much luck with that project. We live in a small town and there is not much to choose from but we needed the adventure out. On our way down to the only hobby store in the area we stopped at the Goodwill and found another doll. A cute little Precious Moments birthday doll. She is for November but is missing the November sign. She is dressed in the nicest turquoise dress and feather wings and has feathers and a bow in her hair. We also found a wooden doll size desk chair. I didn't get all cleaned up today but will get to it tomorrow.

It was then on to the hobby store which was a bust but you never know what you will find so we left there and went down to Home Depot to look at sheet vinyl for our kitchen. We found some and one of these days we will get it and have it installed. I did buy a house plant while we were there. A pretty lavender and white double African Violet. We started back up the road (we only have one main road through town) and stopped at the Salvation Army thrift store. We have stopped there before but usually can't find anything. Today I found three dolls and a brand new package of 8 crochet hooks. You can never have too much crochet hooks and I have a problem when I want a size hook and can't find the right one in the house. You know that thing where you put something away for safe keeping but never remember where that spot is. After that it was on to the third thrift store where we came away empty. Just up the road from that store is Joann's Fabric so we went there to look for porcelain heads and boy they were way overpriced but I did find some beautiful soft yarn on sale so bought that to make a doll blanket. After all the stop and go from store to store we were tired and hungry so we came home to have some lunch.

I then cleaned dolls and washed some of the clothing. Started on cleaning up the desk chair and ran out of steam so played on the computer for a while.

Oh! I did start the doll blanket tonight and it is going to be so soft and pretty.

So here is one of the dolls I picked up today. She has been cleaned up and I really didn't know the marking on her neck so I asked some Facebook friends and they know who so was. A Eric Krozer doll out of Germany. A vintage doll from the 70's and in good condition with all the original clothing.

So now it is almost bed time again but I thought maybe you would like to see one more of the dolls I got earlier in the week. This is a Cititoy, 2007 baby. She runs on batteries and so much fun to see her crawl across the floor. She moves her head back and forth while laughing and then she fall from her hands to her arms and cries and gets back up on her hands and keeps right on crawling. She was without clothing when I got her plus it took almost a full day to be able to open her to put new batteries in her. Had to soak the screw in WD40 before I could loosen it, but once the new batteries were in her, she took off. I have put a little pink outfit on her but I think I am going to change it to a diaper and short shirt because then you can see her legs move. This way you can't. I just love the expression on her face. I only buy dolls that I could love and would want in my collection. Of course, I can't keep everything so almost every thing I buy then clean and dress, will be for sale.

I hope that I will be able to keep it up now. Since the first of the year a lot has happened that kept me away from writing. I having even been able to do much with finding and redoing the dolls. Now that is sad as I really love working with the dolls.

First I was sick, starting last November and it pretty much ran through the end of January. Then on top of this my hubby gets a lump on his forehead which was a squamous cell carcinoma. A very aggressive and fast growing cancer. After the biopsy and two surgeries, we hope it is now gone. The final surgery was just last week and he has a lot of stitches in his head. He will have to see the dermatologist every three months for the next year to make sure it doesn't come back. This is because it grew so fast and was so large.

His brother was no so lucky five years ago (he didn't go to the doctor right away) with one on the side of his head and ended up with multiple surgeries plus radiation which ended up doing more damage. If you haven't seen a dermatologist within this last year DO IT NOW and be checked. This lump my hubby had only appeared in late December and we were at the doctor's office the first week of January and it grew that fast. Don't take for granted it is just a pimple because it may not be.

I did an antique show in February and did quite well and I have a art and craft show scheduled for the last weekend of March. Two very different types of shows but a lot of the stuff I had for the antique show can be shown at the craft show plus all the stuff I made that couldn't be shown at the antique show.

I did get a few dresses made for my regular doll clothing customers for Valentines day and I am working on the Easter dresses now. I wanted to get them done earlier but all the health problems and the running from doctor to doctor just didn't give me time to do it.

Here is the one outfit I made for a 22 inch doll. The doll is mine and I bought this doll new only because it is the exact same size as the doll I have to make the outfit for.

She hasn't seen the outfit yet as I just mailed it today. It has a purple under dress in cotton with a lavender over dress in a organza fabric all trimmed with lavender lace and silver ribbon.

I do have a few dolls that I have picked up over the last couple of weeks that need cleaning and clothing made but they will probably have to wait until the next show is over. We still have one doctor appointment this week plus lab tests and 3 next week. It is bad when you have to have multiple doctors because each has a different specialty. What ever happened to the old fashion doctor who could treat everything?

I have more dolls to show everyone so I hope that I can get on here more often and show you some of the dolls that I have been working on.

Take care and have a good week.EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-53915691901415144412012-01-01T20:52:00.000-08:002012-01-01T20:52:01.769-08:00Happy New Year to all my wonderful friends.Another year has passed with some good parts and some bad parts. I think all years are like that. It would be nice if a year went along and nothing bad happened but that is not life. There will always be bad parts but there is no need and we should not want to dwell on the bad. It is best for our health both physically and mentally to think of only the good.

What this year will bring, I don't know but I personally look forward to some great craft shows and one antique show. Plus I look for more sales both on my website and on eBay. I know a lot of people don't like eBay but it has been very good to me over the holiday shopping season. Yes, I am not fond of paying them but then I stop and think.....if I was doing a show, I would have to pack everything, drive to a venue, unpack and sit there and hope people liked what I had and after the show, reverse the process. Then there is usually hotel fees, food, gas and the show fees. What is the better deal? I say, for me anyway, eBay. I can sit at my computer, upload the info and picture, and then watch as the people bid on it. So the fees that eBay gets, to me, are justified. Yes I still like to do a couple of shows a year and these are local shows so I am home every night, because I still like to get the feedback of people. Plus I love to talk to people about dolls and anything else that happens to come up.

So this year, if my health holds out, I will do a few shows and keep every thing going on the computer. The computer keeps me in touch with the world and I learn something new about every day. I think it keeps me feeling young. Between FaceBook and several craft forums I am on, I have gained so many wonderful friends. We may never meet but if we ever did, it would be like meeting an old friend we haven't seen in a while. I cherish everyone who I have met on the internet. What would we do without the internet? LOL

So here is hoping everyone has a tremendous 2012. EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-11174705526737303392011-12-21T20:46:00.000-08:002011-12-21T20:46:10.868-08:00Merry Christmas from my house to yours!

I wish everyone the Merriest of Christmas. I hope that everyone enjoy their holiday and has a safe and happy time.

My hubby and I will celebrate a quiet day with just the two of us. All our children live too far away to come to our house and they all will be enjoy time with their children and extended family and friends. We chose to live in the part of the country that none of the kids liked and so there is never much chance to see them. They also live from one end of the country to the other so they don't see each other either except for every two or three years. We were lucky this summer and two of the kids and three of the grandchildren were here in July. That was a fun week of lots of activities in very hot weather. Living, as we do, in Arizona, most people can't take the heat we have and are glad they don't live here.

There are times when I do miss the snow but........at my age, I sure don't want the cold or the snow and ice to drive in. We both grew up in northern Illinois and as adults also lived in Michigan and Indiana the first 30+ years of our lives and that was enough, we moved to sunny Arizona. So because of living here we don't have family close but we will make the most of our Christmas day. There are 9 casinos just across the Colorado River from us in Laughlin, Nevada so there is always entertainment. We just might avail ourselves to some on Christmas day.

I wish to thank everyone who bought bears and dolls from me this past year. You have all made me very happy with sales higher than I have had in the past few years.

Merry Christmas
Bear Hugs and Dolly Kisses
EvaEvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-42432166936788557252011-12-14T11:12:00.000-08:002011-12-14T11:12:51.806-08:00Big Sale on my websiteI have so many dolls right now that I have marked a lot of them down and I thought maybe some of you would like to see what is still available. I really need to add more things to the site but that will wait until after Christmas and then I will know what I have left. I also have two big shows to do the first part of the year. One antique show in February and a art and craft show to do in March so I need to get busy with sewing on some of the dolls that, at this point are naked. Poor babies are all in a container and I have just been to busy and then ill for the last couple of months.

I never get sick but this year has not been good to me. First a sinus infection in October which in a week turned into a lung infection and took lots of medicine to cure. Then just as I was feeling better and thought good it is over, I got the flu which completely wiped me out for a week. Fingers crossed, I am doing okay this week other than the arthritis in the spine and that pain will never go away.

I hope everyone has their Christmas decorations all up and everyone is excited about the holidays. We have a quiet time here as none of our family lives close.

So I hope you will take a look at my website and pick up those last minute gifts. There is still time to get it in the mail if you do so in the next few days.

Thank you for taking a peek http://www.ejcrafts.com

Bear hugs and Dolly kisses to everyone.
EvaEvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-80969571238268848252011-11-26T20:47:00.000-08:002011-11-26T20:47:44.513-08:00Thanksgiving is over and now on to ChristmasOur Thanksgiving was a quiet one with just the two of us and we had a nice rib roast for dinner. We are not turkey eaters and we do love a nice beef roast. Of course we are still eating on it.

I know I haven't been around in a while and this time I have a good reason. I was very sick for almost a month. It started with a head cold and went to the lungs. Didn't want to go to the doctor but it came down to that when the paramedics had to be called because I couldn't breathe. Had some very strong antibiotics and steroids for a couple of weeks plus lots of other medicine and I am finally getting over it.

Then with all the weather changes the arthritis also went into high gear and there are days that I can verily get around. Whoever said that these are the golden ages, should have been shot. Old age is not for the weak!

So after saying all that, none of which you wanted to hear, I have not been in the sewing room to work on any new dolls for over a month. This is bad for me but then I have plenty of dolls so I don't have to worry that I am going to run out of stock.

I did one show this year in October and it was bad. It is usually a good money maker and the traffic was not there this year. Don't really know why. The economy around here is not good. I was going to do the swap meet to get rid of some of the cheaper dolls and then I got sick and was unable to do that.

My next show is an antique show in February and along with the dolls I have picked up some antique furniture this year to add to the mix. Some is doll furniture, some children's furniture, a old 1924 cabinet and a 1954 sewing machine in a cabinet. I hope this will bring more people into my booth. Here is the cabinet that I have.

Now I also wanted to say tonight that I have a BIG SALE going on my website until December 10. Everything will go back to regular price after that time. I hope you will all take a look and see if there is something that you would like. The website is http://www.ejcrafts.com I would sure appreciate anything that you can do as being sick has kept me from doing the usual craft shows this year and my stock is pretty big. My husband says he is getting to feel like he lives in a doll house or store and said I can't buy any more dolls until I get rid of some. Little does he know that if I find something that I want, I am going to buy it. Tee! Hee!

Hope your Thanksgiving was great and you didn't over eat too much. All the cookies, candy and Christmas parties are coming up and we will probably all gain a little over the next four weeks.
EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-43001378029757241442011-10-15T08:20:00.000-07:002011-10-15T08:20:44.019-07:00ProcrastinationYep, that is me. I should be getting dolls priced and deciding on a set up for a craft show I have next weekend and here I sit.....playing on the computer.

I saw this sign this morning and I really think it is me. "A clean house is a sign of a broken computer". It really does describe me. My house needs some cleaning and my sewing room is a mess from working in there and just dropping things anyway after I use them. I am an organized person and everything has a place but it seems lately that I just don't get done what should be. Is it age? I don't know but maybe I can blame it on that.

Now if anyone has some answers for me or maybe you all would like to come and help, I sure would appreciate it. :)

As for the show next weekend. It is in the Community Park at Bullhead City, Arizona and if any of you are near the area, please stop by and see all the beautiful stuff that people have made. October 21 to 23 is the date. It is just across the Colorado river from Laughlin, Nevada so you can always stay and play at the casinos. The weather should be great and in the 80's.EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-88954817977907228702011-10-04T22:38:00.000-07:002011-10-04T22:38:25.586-07:00Why I love thrift storesI have been going to thrift stores now for about a year and this is something I didn't think I would ever do as I was a teddy bear maker and they didn't have things in the thrift stores that interested me.

Boy was I wrong about me and thrift stores. I probably hit the thrift stores now 2 to 3 times a week. Of course, part of that is because I no longer do the teddy bears, although I have been having people say that they think I will start doing them again one of these days. I don't think so because I am having too much fun with the dolls.

Now back to the thrift stores. I think I have pretty much depleted all the dolls at these stores. I am not finding them like I use too but then I know there are others out there doing basically like I am doing with the refurbishing the dolls. Anyway, I started looking for doll furniture mainly for displays for my craft shows but that kind of got out of hand and now I have a ton of doll furniture and some recycled pieces that didn't start out as doll furniture. I have enough stuff to start a store of my own.

So I started this blog posting mainly to talk about my newest addition to my doll furniture. This is a real baby cradle that I found at the thrift store. It was in with all the other furniture and not where the toys or dolls are at. I thought it odd that this cradle was with the regular furniture but then it is for a baby. I have several doll beds to but I really fell in love with this cradle. It looks old and it looks homemade and it does show wear and use. Wouldn't it be great if it could tell us where it has been and if it ever was used for a baby. I made a new cushion for the bottom and a pillow to match in a blue and white cotton and then I had to put one of the dolls in it. This doll is an interactive doll and does several things but it also plays the song "Lullaby and Good Night". I think it was made for this cradle. What do you think?
I bought her months ago. Didn't know who she was and at the time couldn't find her. I got her without batteries so when I brought her home, I did what I also do with dolls when I bring them in the house. I cleaned her up and added the batteries. Nothing happened. I could see that the arms were suppose to move because of the metal in the arms and the head seemed to want to move but nothing I could do would make her move. I googled her and I looked at several other places and no doll. All I knew was the tag that said Mattel 2006.

Well seeing I couldn't make her work and I really didn't know who she was and what she was suppose to do, I put her in the corner of my sewing room and thought someday I will find out who she was. She sat there for months and.............

Forward to this morning. I was in the sewing room going to work on a new pattern for a 12 in Alexander "Lissi" doll that I have orders for Christmas outfits. All of a sudden I heard a noise and wasn't sure what it was and then I heard a giggle. Now I knew I didn't have any dolls in there that make noises or talked so I just ignored it and then there it was again. The little noise and a giggle. This I had to check out! I walked around and I could hear it again from a pile of doll stuff. I moved a couple of things and there was this doll with it's arms moving and they went to her eyes and she said peek a boo. I picked her up and she started talking and moving her arms more and her head moved. I took her out to where my hubby was sitting and we both sat and listened for about 15 minutes to all the different stuff that she was saying and watching her arms move in different positions. It was fun and to think I had thrown her in a corner and just forgot her. Why she started to talk this morning I don't know but I decided I needed to find out who she was.

So I Goggle her and still couldn't find her and so I took the next step. I have lots of friends on Facebook and I just knew someone there would know because this doll is not that old. Sure enough within minutes I had my answer. She is called, Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Doll. She was made by Mattel but for Fisher Price. I found her on Amazon at a high price and she also was on eBay. My next step was to get her dressed. She had the original ribbons in her hair so those I left and she had come in a one piece pink suit but I don't like those outfits so I made her a pink cotton dress and matching bloomers. A couple of the things she says is "I want my blankie" and "I want my teddy bear". I had both of these items that I bought at the thrift store so just added those to her. She also asks for milk and there was a bottle in the original package when the doll was new so I will find a bottle the fits her and add that too.

So even though it isn't Halloween yet and spooky things are not suppose to happen, I consider this my Halloween joke on me for the year. I still want to know why all of a sudden she decided to work. Now I have to turn her off or she wants to run all the time. SPOOKY!!!!!
I did that is morning and so I just laid in bed and for some reason, I started thinking about buying gas for the car in today's world and what it was like buying gas when I was young.

Today we go in to all self serve gas pumps, swipe our card, select our grade of gas then pump our gas and drive away, never seeing or talking to anyone. I did this last week and it cost me almost $60 to fill the tank. I really don't like get gas for the car but then we don't go very far and I only have to do this every 3 to 4 weeks. I know a lot of you out there do this every week or more.

Now for the story about getting gas that I was thinking about this morning. When I was young, I never even thought about pumping the gas myself. In fact no one pumped there own gas. It was unheard of. You had gas stations where you pulled into the pump, a nice man came out and asked you how much gas you wanted, pumped the gas then checked your oil and water levels and washed the windows in the car, took you money and thanked you for stopping by. You usually only bought $2 worth of gas. This would probably get you around most of the week. The gas stations were also set up with a garage attached too it so when you needed to have the oil changed, a tuneup or even new tires, that is where you went. You were on first name basis with the owner and whoever worked for him.

I wonder if there are any of these type of stations still around somewhere in the back roads of our country. I miss the friendly people from back then and someone else pumping my gas.EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-88049282895951316412011-07-20T22:07:00.000-07:002011-07-20T22:07:18.410-07:00Family....Dolls......Pain....Everything that has kept me off here.First we start with the family. Two of our three kids plus two grand kids were here for almost a week. I sure enjoyed having them here but it was too hot to really do any thing so we pretty much stayed in the home and talked, played on the computers, watched some television and put together a puzzle. We did do a little shopping and ate a lot. I didn't cook at all because the kids bought at our meals. It was great as I really, really don't like to cook.

Then I guess I should talk about the pain. I am pretty much living on pain killers. I have been diagnosed with severe arthritis of the spine. Some days it is hard to get out of bed and other days not so bad. It is something I just have to learn to live with. I had a couple of days of pity party but then, I decided it is NOT going to stop me and I decided try to live a normal life for as long as I can. I work a little and I sit a little and I walk a little and that is how I get through each day. No one wants to hear about my aches and pains so that is enough......

Now for my dolls. My real joy in life right now. The hunt for dolls is so much fun and my husband, I think, is having as much fun as I am going to the thrift stores. There are times when I figure we were at one of the store just a couple of days before and here he is saying lets go check out this store or that.

It has been a couple of weeks were we didn't find anything that we wanted and then this past week we have found 6 dolls that I can work on. Some are named dolls and some are not. Are the vintage dolls, no, but they are nice dolls to work on.

Here is one that I have not found anything about. She is a sweetie with a cute smiley face and freckles. She is 15 inches tall. If anyone knows anything about this doll I would sure appreciate knowing.

These are the before and after pictures of her. She has a little speaker in her tummy but it doesn't work anymore and there is no way to replace it without taking the doll apart. I didn't want to do that as she was in great shape. I decided she looked like an Irish lassie with her strawberry blond hair and reddish brown freckles.

I hope to be able to get on here tomorrow or before the week is out to be able to show you the doll I finished up today. She is my BJD Southern Belle doll.EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-51576723637187982382011-07-03T22:42:00.000-07:002011-07-03T22:42:05.959-07:00It has been a while......Yep, it has been quite a while since I have posted on here. Where does the time go? I have been getting more dolls and fixing them up. I had been buying a few on eBay as the dolls that I put on there sold, I would use the money to buy other dolls. Now eBay is flat in sales so I have not bought any more on there. By the time I pay to have them shipped, it raises the cost and then I have to charge more for the dolls when I finish them. We are still going to the thrift stores every week and finding some good buys. Have bought quite a bit of furniture too so come fall and the craft shows, I will have the furniture to sell too. Plus I also have some doll quilts that I have made and there are always the extra doll clothes.

Digging through all the old stock I had on the shelves, I found a few bears that haven't sold so have them on my website at a good price. Need to get rid of that stock because I need the room. I have also make some of the "Emma" dolls and have a couple of them on my website too. I really need to get some more of them made.

Here is the one doll that I worked on this past couple of weeks. It is a Madame Alexander, 18 inch baby doll. She was such a sweetheart to work on.

And next we have the Lee Middleton by Reva, 17 inch boy doll. His face was so sweet, I couldn't pass him up. I made this outfit in a navy suede cloth.
Well we are starting to get a wind storm here so I guess I had better get off the computer. Thanks for reading my blog and don't forget to leave comments. EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-56656933528400079862011-04-20T21:25:00.000-07:002011-04-20T21:29:03.652-07:00I am in love with a doll.Yes, it is true. My hubby and I go looking for dolls and doll furniture every week at all the thrift stores. These are all old dolls in need of work and clothes and all that you already know. I love the work I am doing with the dolls. Last week we found some great doll furniture. A wicker cradle, a love bunch and a wicker chair and one little doll that I got cleaned up.

Well today was our usual Goodwill day as it is 25% off for seniors. We were going up and down the toy aisle and looking for dolls and rejected what was there. We always stop in the porcelain aisle but because I have not had good luck with selling this type of doll and they are always priced higher, we just look at them and pass them by. I picked up this Indian baby and said isn't she cute, to bad she is porcelain. I put her back and we walked to the back of the store to see if there was any furniture, trims or fabric we could get. Nothing there and I saw an oil lamp that looked nice from a distance but when I got up close it was to new to be sold as an antique so past on it. I was ready to leave and just as we got up to where the dolls were again, John says don't you want this Indian doll. I loved the look but know she probably wouldn't sell and that is what we do this for, but I decided, oh heck, I can buy something for myself once in a while. She was a little messy but I got her home, brushed her hair and the fur on her outfit. Then I found she did have a cute little necklace with bells on it. She sits in a swing that is just attached at the top of the head. Right now she is hanging in my kitchen but I am going to be putting her in my sewing room and I will be able to smile at her every day when I am in there.
I guess it is good to find something for myself once in a while. She is dressed in lavender which is one of my favorite colors. She has a couple of things I still need to fix. Some of the feathers need replacing and one eyelash is missing but she is so sweet even if I never get the little things fixed.
By the end of the week, I should have another doll in the mail that I can work on but at this point in time, I really don't have anything new coming out. I miss working on dolls every day.

Tomorrow I have to get an album together to take to a store so that they can show my dolls there. I am hoping that one of these days they will carry some of the dolls and not just pictures of the dolls.EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569095311931675505.post-29148602319433410842011-04-09T09:39:00.000-07:002011-04-09T09:39:10.662-07:00I have had lots of fun this week.
I have had lots of fun this week with making christening type dresses for 13 inch Lee Middleton baby dolls. I did one in blue and one in peach. Each one is a little different as I only make one of a kind outfits. They are both listed on my website. After I finished up these, I was in a lace overload so it was on to something more simple.

Then it was onto the last of the Lee Middleton dolls that I got. This one is a 15 inch toddler doll from 2000. I just did her is a little white with red rose buds, cotton print dress and bloomers. She is a little cutie with pretty brown eyes that seem to talk to you.

As this is the last of these dolls, I have 3 Alexander dolls from 1965 that I have to see what I can do with. All have some ills and not sure I will be able to fix them or not. These are 13 inch dolls and I am going to have to really work on them to be able to do anything with them. Next week should be good for working on them.......but first I really, really need to clean the sewing room.EvaJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12358985971998444499noreply@blogger.com0
